The 23 Classic: Stylish and Seaworthy

The 8’6” beam, wide 6”chines and moderate 14 degree aft deadrise provide incredible stability and a shallow draft of 14”. The flat running characteristic of the Maritime hull and the 50 degree deadrise of the bow allow the Classic to efficiently part the waves while the rounded bow and extreme flare deflects spray away from passengers and crew.

Powered with a 175 HP motor running at a cruise speed of 25 MPH the 23 Classic will deliver greater than 4.0 MPG while burning less than 6.5 GPH. All Maritimes have ethanol friendly polyethylene fuel tanks, range of a 23 Classic’s 83 gallon tank is in excess of 250 miles. With a maximum 225 horsepower motor the 23 Classic will reach speeds in excess of 45 MPH.

The 23 Classic is a perfect combination of functional style, performance and Maritime’s dependable rugged quality construction.

The 23 Classic is the soft-top version of the Challenger model, sharing many of its unique top side features as well as the proven ride and offshore performance characteristics of the Maritime 23’ hull design.

A distinct feature of the Classic is the aluminum framed windshield, welded for strength and powder coated white for good looks. It has convenient outside handrails that are helpful when accessing the bow area and an inside center grab rail for the driver or navigator. The windshield features clear glass for unobstructed visibility and has ventilation wing vents on both sides that scoop fresh air into the helm area when staying cool is necessary.

Visibility from the helm is outstanding, even when accelerating, due to Maritime’s minimal bow rise. If you decide to stand, the seats slide aft 6″ providing leaning post like comfort and if you’re taller than 5′ 8″, you’ll be able to see over the windshield frame.

The Classic stylishly accommodates an optional canvas bimini for overhead sun and rain protection while the optional seven –piece weather curtain set, including bimini, front and side Strataglass windows and three-piece zippered rear drop curtain can turn the Classic into an all–weather contender. All supports and hardware on the weather curtain set is made with 316 grade stainless steel. The rear drop curtain has three panels; the center section easily rolls up or can be removed. When the top is furled aft, a convenient boot secures loose canvas.

Classic Cuddy- Comfortable and Convenient

Standing headroom inside the cuddy is 4′ 10″, sitting head-room 37″ and the bunks are an impressive 7′ long. This is one of the few 23′ cuddies where overnighters can sleep with their heads forward. Ventilation and natural light is provided by an overhead 17″ x 17″ hatch. The two 4″ x 14″ side ports with screens increase airflow at night, as does the lockable bi-fold door which has abundant screened louvers positioned high and low to induce natural air circulation. There are two conveniently placed red/white dome lights in the cuddy and a storage compartment in the forepeak bulkhead has room for soft gear and a huge under-floor compartment aft is ideal for duffle bags, deck chairs, life jackets, etc.

The 23 Classic comes standard with a comfortable fabric-covered four-piece cushion set (filler piece not inserted in photo) and is frequently equipped with an optional portable toilet or full marine head and pump out system.

Small Things & Big Differences

The 23 Classic boasts a 7′ wide by 7′ long cockpit, protected by a transom splashwell. The “well” not only reduces the chances of following seas boarding the boat, it also provides access to service the bilge pump, fuel filter and fuel hoses. On either side of the splashwell there are two comfortable quarter seats; batteries are stored underneath and are conveniently serviced through access hatches under the cushions.

The heavy-duty stern rail provides added security when standing in the cockpit. It also provides a handhold for seated passengers aft and is a great place for rail-mount rod holders.

An aggressive non-skid deck pattern combined with a self bailing cockpit makes the boat easy to clean and maintain. There is a choice for an all white interior cockpit or the traditional Maritime solid grey interior, both which utilize the highest quality gel coats for maximum durability and wear resistance.

The good looks of the 23 Classic are built around an all composite hull, deck and grid system, in fact there is no wood in any of our Maritimes. The foam filled grid and compartments beneath the floor not only make the boat “unsinkable” but also add stiffness and dampen hull noise. While some manufacturers choose not to incorporate flotation characteristics mandatory in smaller boats to their larger models, all Maritime boats, regardless of length are built to the highest safety levels utilizing closed celled foam floatation to provide “unsinkable” safety and security for you and your family.

Similar to the Challenger all the deck hardware on the Classic is heavy-duty 316 stainless steel. Strong 10″ stainless deck cleats are bolted through the deck and the hull flange, resulting in an attachment system far superior to deck-only mounted hardware. Mid-ship cleats are standard as are the stainless bow bitt and its companion 6″ bow chock, both adequately sized for large mooring pendants. The wrap around bow rail is 1″ stainless and starts at 20″ high deepening to 24″ forward. Side deck width starts at 10-1/2″ and gets progressively wider as you walk toward the bow. A large anchor locker is located on the port side forward, deep enough for fender storage.
